The reason I started the BARC 160 Meter Net was to motivate local hams to consider alternate methods and modes for emergency communications. Many operators consider VHF repeaters as their only source of operations and during an emergency the repeaters may not be functional. 160 is a tough net to operate with antenna size, propagation, and atmospheric noise, but when it works it works very very well, specially for a regional communication frequency.
What I had also hoped would happen is a gathering of operators throughout the region at a specific time and place which has wonderfully transpired.
Thank you to all those who check in for making the BARC 160 Meter Net so much fun!

BARC Net Roster

Postby WB7RBH » Sun Feb 20, 2011 1:12 pm

Here is a roster of the normal checkins that have operated several times on the 160 meter net. Some of these stations check in nightly. The list will be updated monthly.

We are officially changing the name of the BARC 160 meter net to the Ragchew 160 meter net in an effort to keep in tune with the forum and to avoid any conflicts with the BARC 501C3 status.

We will see you all on the Ragchew Net.

Thanks for all your support guys!

I have been trying to get into the net for the last month or so. Ever since the last time I checked in, band conditions to my QTH have been terrible. Some times I think I can hear the net. When I do, I give my call N7MCH and I am not sure if you are hearing me or not. I have not changed antennas nor anything else in my shack.

20M in the day has been really great at my QTH along with 75/80M at night but 160M appears to be dead to me now. I will keep trying as I miss the net chat.

Walt we are so sorry we are not hearing you! If we had we would certainly take the time to let you in.

All I can say is keep trying as band conditions are different everyday. Sometimes small changes in the antenna make a difference in performance but I suspect it is that you are just in a location in which the hop is difficult. Tonight I will listen intently for you and give you a call so listen up.

Keep trying we value your participation in the net.

I keep trying but band conditions and my long wire are not cutting it. I can hear the net with my vertical but neither it nor my long wire seem to be able to reach out.
